It was amazing to see validation of these fully new protein folds that don't exist anywhere in nature," Lee says. "With matches in OmegaFold and experimental testing in the lab, we could be confident these were properly folded proteins. They then chose a smaller number to create physically in test tubes, to confirm the structures were proteins and not just stray strings of chemical compounds. With OmegaFold, the team confirmed that almost all their novel sequences fold into the desired and also novel protein structures. Both platforms use AI to predict the structure of proteins based on amino acid sequences. To test their new proteins, Lee and his colleagues first turned to OmegaFold, an improved version of DeepMind's software AlphaFold 2. Almost all of them look real according to standard metrics, says Lee, but the researchers needed further proof. The system generates many structures, often unlike anything found in nature. "A key idea was the proper image-like representation of protein structure, such that the diffusion model can learn how to generate novel proteins accurately," says Lee, who is from Vancouver but did his undergraduate degree in South Korea and master's in Switzerland before choosing U of T for his doctorate.Īlso difficult was validation of the proteins produced by ProteinSGM. Jin Sub (Michael) Lee, a doctoral student in the Kim lab and first author on the paper, says that optimizing the early stage of this image generation process was one of the biggest challenges in creating ProteinSGM. The model tracks how the images become noisier and then runs the process in reverse, learning how to transform random pixels into clear images that correspond to fully novel proteins. The researchers feed these images into a generative diffusion model, which gradually adds noise until each image becomes all noise. The new system, which the researchers call ProteinSGM, draws from a large set of image-like representations of existing proteins that encode their structure accurately. "By combining biophysics-based representations of protein structure with diffusion methods from the image generation space, we can begin to address this problem." "It's been very hard to predict which folds will be real and work in a protein structure," says Kim, who is also a professor in the departments of molecular genetics and computer science at U of T. With a better understanding of how existing proteins fold, researchers have begun to design folding patterns not produced in nature.īut a major challenge, says Kim, has been to imagine folds that are both possible and functional. Those shapes evolved over billions of years and are varied and complex, but also limited in number. Proteins are made from chains of amino acids that fold into three-dimensional shapes, which in turn dictate protein function. Kim's lab also published a pre-print on the model last summer through the open-access server bioRxiv, ahead of two similar pre-prints from last December, RF Diffusion by the University of Washington and Chroma by Generate Biomedicines. Today, the journal Nature Computational Science published the findings, the first of their kind in a peer-reviewed journal. "All our proteins appear to be biophysically real, meaning they fold into configurations that enable them to carry out specific functions within cells." Kim, a professor in the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research at U of T's Temerty Faculty of Medicine. "Our model learns from image representations to generate fully new proteins, at a very high rate," says Philip M. The system will help advance the field of generative biology, which promises to speed drug development by making the design and testing of entirely new therapeutic proteins more efficient and flexible.

Or that you acknowledge the “truth” that bitcoin - recently likened in these pages to a Ponzi scheme - is the Currency of Destiny. First, that you follow the Orange One, i.e., Donald Trump. Have you been orange-pilled? That can mean two things. This would explain why Neo is faced with red and blue at every turn - a constant reminder of the paths he can take, and the temptations lying one way or another.“White-pilled” means the opposite, the Urban Dictionary explains: “The moment or series of events by which a person abandons despair and surrenders to the inevitability of hope not out of sheer optimism, but from facing difficulty and nihilism head-on through the use of reason and inquiry.” Whereas the original trilogy saw Neo make his choice early, The Matrix Resurrections could find Keanu Reeves taking longer to weigh up his options. Yahya Abdul-Mateen's character suggests Neo is stuck inside the Matrix because he refuses to abandon Trinity, while the therapist proves "Thomas" is making great effort to silence his inner memories. With so much of The Matrix Resurrections' trailer taking place inside the simulation, the struggle this time seems to be between the real and digital. In the original trilogy, Neo's struggle was a man vs. machine affair. The red and blue pills might also tell us something about The Matrix Resurrections' maze-like plot. Revisiting the red and blue pills in this huge way allows Lana to use The Matrix Resurrections as a commentary on the franchise's real-world influence over the past 20 years. Whether recycling shots from the original or dropping lines that apply in reality as much as in-universe, Lana Wachowski's return to the Matrix lands curiously close to real life. Though the trailer is intensely frustrating in its mysteriousness, The Matrix Resurrections is clearly extremely meta. In a case of art imitating life, the prevalence of The Matrix's red and blue pills through 2 decades of pop culture likely inspired the red and blue theme of The Matrix Resurrections. There's red and blue butterflies, blue in Jessica Henwick's hair, and tinted shots that make a change from the nauseous green of past sequels. Beyond just the pills, the entire Matrix Resurrections trailer revolves around red and blue colors. Abdul-Mateen and Priyanka Chopra's characters both carry a red motif, suggesting they're both trustworthy, while Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff are adorned in blue. There's a big pot of blue pills on his therapist's desk also, and a sink full of them when Neo decides to seek out the truth. Of course, we see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II offer Keanu Reeves the very same choice Laurence Fishburne did in 1999, but Neo is also spotted guzzling down blue pills. Strangely, The Matrix Resurrections is using the red and blue pills right in the thick of the story. Related: Why Morpheus Has Been Recast For The Matrix Resurrections There's no more pill-taking thereafter, and the choice is only referenced again a handful of times. After Neo makes his choice and takes Morpheus' red pill, the adventure begins. The Matrix's red pill/blue pill has become a metaphor used (and misued) in political, philosophical and social spheres. so it's easy to forget how the scene is such a small part of the original story. RawDigger 圆4 can be used to check the amount of vignetting caused by the lens and the sensor. Landscape photographers may want to use RawDigger to determine the effect of the filters on the lens, to check neutrality of polarizing and neutral density filters and, possibly, to select color correction and color compensation filters to use in different light. RawDigger 圆4 is more precise than any exposure meter for the purpose of evaluation of the uniformity of fill light and reproduction light setups (in terms of the evenness of both color balance and luminosity across the background).įor studio photography RawDigger helps establishing the proper light filtration to achieve the cleanest possible shadows on the shots. RawDigger 圆4 is a useful tool for examining how the relative per-channel underexposure depends on the color of light. If the shadows look blotchy, colorless, or details in shadows are poorly resolved you will be able to determine how much they are underexposed and set Underexposure (UE) indicator in RawDigger accordingly. RawDigger 圆4 helps determining the raw level at which the overexposure “blinkies” start on the camera LCD and to know how much headroom is still available after the blinkies start showing. That is, RawDigger 圆4 lets you establish the headroom in highlights and obtain optimal exposures.įor ETTR practitioners, RawDigger makes it very simple to compare raw histogram to in-camera histogram and account for the difference, making the exposures as much “to the right” as possible. RawDigger 圆4 allows determining how exposure meter is calibrated and what raw level corresponds to the midpoint of in-camera histogram. Overexposure (OE) indicator will show you exactly what areas of the shot are blown out and in which color channel(s) it happened (best if used in channel view). RawDigger 圆4 displays the real histogram of the raw data, which greatly differs from the in-camera histogram and histograms presented by most of the raw converters. Support for new cameras is usually implemented within few weeks after raw samples become available. RawDigger 圆4 supports nearly all cameras that have raw capability. Instead, it allows you to see the data that will be used by raw convertors. RawDigger 圆4 doesn’t alter the raw data in any way. In essence, it is a microscope of sorts that lets you drill down into raw data. Top Software Keywords Show more Show lessĪ tool to visualize and examine pure raw data as the camera has recorded it. DesignĪs stated above, the design is a call back to the 2014 Queercon badge, the 3.5″ floppy. This is also the most recent iteration of the Queercon badge team and we just stole them for this project. Everyone helped on everything and it was awesome. Those are just our primary roles, mind you. Bus – All things graphical and branding.George – Responsible for the software and testing.Evan/ akio – I mainly do PCB design and manufacturing.Qs4oYUHX1j- badge.lgbt AugCast and Charactersīefore we get too far into talking about the badge, lets talk about those who helped make it happen! An almost exact replica of a floppy disk, with a 7×15 RGB LED display, BLE, IrDa communications, and customizable stickers. Somehow “throwback” turned into “lets make an RGB version of the Disk badge from 2014” which turned into “oh but with more leds.”Īfter several iterations, the Badge.lgbt was born. Now how, exactly, we went from “simple” and “low component count” to “the most LEDs we have ever used” and “several fine pitch QFN parts” I will never know. If we can bang out a Halloween badge in a week, we can certainly do this… Why not? Simple, easy to produce, blinky, and very few features. Since it wasn’t officially a Queercon badge, we’d adopt new branding and control the sales and distribution ourselves. Our software guy, George, insisted that if were were going to attend DEF CON (which at this point was both confirmed happening and we were both vaccinated) we needed to do a “small” “simple” badge that was maybe a throwback to one of our beloved earlier ones. Queercon itself was unsure of what a Queercon would look like… and continued to waffle (not that we blame them) until we were well past the design cut off for a badge. Keeping in mind this was January 2021, late in the game to be planning a badge, and for most people the idea of getting vaccinated was a distant dream. But… what kind of badge should we make? An in-person badge? Remote? Hybrid? There were problems with all of these approaches, not the least of which being Queercon badges aren’t known for being particularly robust or error free, so anything that we were sending out to people either needed to be bulletproof or very simple, preferably both. So when 2021 came around, the badge team was refreshed and ready for the challenge. I didn’t want it to happen like this but here we are. Too many years straight of doing badges and I needed a break. Ultimately, I decided that 2020 could be a year of rest. The Queercon badge team discussed doing a “safe mode” badge that could do all the usual Queercon things but from a distance. On the long list of the many, many things we all lost, an in-person DEF CON was one of them. Next year's edition, DEF CON 29, is currently scheduled as an in-person event, planned for August 5-8, 2021.I think we can all agree that 2020 was a hell of a year. Going forward, Moss said DEF CON will continue to be an in-person event. I didn't want to endanger the future of the con by tweeting that we were canceling before we understood and were confident we could navigate the process." It has taken weeks of working with staff, lawyers, accountants, and Caesars. "While I made the decision to cancel the in-person conference almost a month ago on April 11th, the delay in announcing has been due to learning how to actually cancel. While the Black Hat team has only posted a short statement, Jeff Moss, the DEF CON manager has gone into the details that lead to today's decision. No changes in dates have been announced, and both conferences are expected to take place during their previously announced dates. While details are still scant at the moment, both conferences will live-stream talks to paying attendees. The two are now following in the footsteps of many other cyber-security conferences who canceled or went with a virtual format since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in February this year. With a higher focus on strength and range, this build trades up the two stats for a lesser duration and efficiency. (Excalibur using Exalted Blade) Strength Range Build Radial Javelin will have a smaller area but will deal higher amounts of damage which makes it good for melee contact as well as its increased duration makes its stun last longer.Įxalted Blade will have a shorter range when attacking but damage will scale along with the high amount of duration causing it to consume less energy. Slash Dash will have a smaller range but will deal more damage and his Radial Howl/Radial Blind will have a longer duration with less radius. Most of his abilities will have shorter range but he may use them to extent where they last longer and deal more damage. This build allows Excalibur’s abilities to deal more damage and last longer with the reduction in range and no change in efficiency. This is a very powerful ability and one can mod it to the way they wish to use it, where it can either be used to deal deadly amounts of damage or to last the entirety of the mission. 4) Exalted BladeĮxcalibur unleashes his exalted weapon, summoning a sword that he uses to slash at enemies which also sends out deadly waves when he attacks.Įxalted Blade causes Excalibur to unleash waves that go through enemies and objects when attack and a quick Radial Blind/Radial Howl attack when doing a spin attack.Įxcalibur will deal both damage on melee and for the waves sent out through his attacks. On lower level missions this can be an easy way to get rid of multiple enemies surrounding an objective or to clear them out quickly.Īugment Mod: Furious Javelin increases Excalibur’s damage by each enemy hit for an amount of time. The ability to kill or stun enemies gives a great opportunity for Excalibur to make use of the time after enemies have been hit as well as his allies. This ability stuns enemies who do not die from the initial damage and can be used as a good way to either kill or deal crowd control when multiple enemies are present. 3) Radial JavelinĮxcalibur slams his weapon into the ground, sending out javelins to impale his enemies dealing damage to enemies in a large area. This ability is great for dealing crowd control and initiating finishers that can even be stealth attacks and works great with several situations which may include beginning an attack or escaping from danger.Īugment Mod: Radiant Finish cause enemies affected to receive increased finisher damage. When cast, enemies are stunned and become open to finishers and when cast by Excalibur Umbra, sentients lose their resistances. This ability is great for dealing damage and for closing in on enemies or escaping from trouble and may even be cast in the air for quick movement.Īugment Mod: Surging Dash causes attacks on enemies to increase your combo meter. 1) Slash DashĮxcalibur dashes forward and attacks enemies that he comes in contact with, slashes one at a time on his way.ĭuring Slash Dash, Excalibur is immune to damage which makes this good for both attacking and escaping enemies.Ĭasting Slash Dash with Exalted Blade active gives bonus base damage and sends out waves towards an enemy as well as enemies behind it. His passive allows him to deal increased damage and attack faster with swords, dual swords, nikanas, two-handed nikanas, and rapiers.Įxcalibur Umbra has the unique ability to move and fight on its own when you are in operator mode where he will use any equipped weapons and resort to melee if close to enemies. Grizzly Targets specializes in reactive steel shooting targets and training equipment. Ends 8/29/16 Griffin - is the Owner of Dropzone Gunner and Co-Owner of Grizzly Targets. We have a few copies of dropzone to #giveaway thanks to Follow us & plus RT. All you have to do to enter is follow instructions in this tweet: I can totally see the competitive potential that Dropzone has.ĭropzone is in the enclosed beta now and we have a few keys to give away. The best way to get better at Dropzone is to play, which is not a problem with one match taking only 15 minutes. I haven’t even scratched the surface of tactical and strategic possibilities this game offers. All in all, the game is beautifully futuristic and units are very detailed.īy the time the first game I played ended, I’ve already knew what was where and I was pretty skilful. Leveling up pilots will unlock other abilities you had previously equipped. This is something between “building” your character in MOBAs and upgrading units in RTS.Īs for the game’s overall look and even the design of Hives or Vision Towers, that’s where the MOBA-side of Dropzone wins. When they reach enough XP to level up you have choose which pilot will level up. Each of them receives the same number of XP. Of course, all your Rigs receive XP for killing enemies. Though 15 minutes may not seem much to you, it’s very intense 15 minutes and when it’s over, you’ll appreciate the break. Thanks to this, there are many ways to play the game and players can come up with endless strategic and tactical approaches. You can also steal your opponent’s Cores or focus on the side-quests (like capturing all Vision Towers simultaneously – you can receive points for that as well) or be more defensive. Each hive has 3 forms, and the number of Cores you receive for killing raises with each form (so you’ll get 3 for killing 3rd form). That’s what Dropzone is about and what ultimately leads to win – collecting more points than your enemy (or enemy team in 2v2 mode) before the 15-minute match ends. After delivering the Core to the centre of the map, it gets transported to the orbiting ship and you get a point. If you kill them and then destroy the hive, you get a Core. Hives are guarded by ugly bug-like creatures. Even more important than Vision Towers are Hives. There are 4 Vision Towers, each can reveal you the part of the map if you capture them. We don’t want this to be pay-to-win.”Īfter you choose the pilots and gear, you start on the Dropship – your base, where your pilots are spawned and healed. More gear can be unlocked via in-game currency, which can also be purchased for real money.ĭropzone is going to be free-to-play, but the developer said: “You can’t buy better gear, only more gear. There are 4 active (triggered by Q, W, E and R) and 3 passive abilities. Secondly, you choose the gear for each pilot from the huge selection of abilities. I haven’t received much info on them yet. Then there are those like Summoner and more which are yet to be revealed. Basic ones are Tank (slower, a lot of HP), Gunner (fast, a lot of firepower), and Mechanic (support who heals, stuns, etc.). Firstly, you choose 3 pilots (here they are called Rigs). In Dropzone, most of your strategic planning happens before the game begins. “Surprisingly” because even though I’ve never been much fond of MOBAs, my first match of Dropzone left me flabbergasted. The outcome is a truly unique, futuristic, fast-paced sci-fi RTS with MOBA elements called Dropzone.Īnd it works surprisingly well. Additionally, they wanted a game whose online broadcasts would be easy to get into. Their objective was to create a strategically and tactically deep, multiplayer RTS for PC, but different from the games they had previously worked on. What happens when Sparkypants, the group of former Big Huge Games (Rise of Nations) people, decides to create a swift MOBA/RTS game? Let me explain you what Dropzone is about. |
